At Staple Hill Primary School, our computing curriculum is underpinned by the Purple Mash scheme of work, which provides a structured, progressive approach to teaching computing from Early Years through to Year 6.
Purple Mash supports our delivery of the National Curriculum for Computing by ensuring pupils develop knowledge and skills across the three key strands: computer science, information technology, and digital literacy. Lessons are carefully sequenced so that pupils build on prior learning, revisit key concepts, and apply their skills in meaningful, creative contexts.
Through Purple Mash, pupils learn how to:
- understand how digital systems work and how information is represented
- create, debug, and refine simple programs
- Use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, and manipulate digital content
- Use the internet and digital tools safely, respectfully, and responsibly
Online safety is woven throughout the curriculum and revisited regularly to ensure pupils develop the skills and awareness needed to stay safe in an increasingly digital world.
Purple Mash also allows teachers to adapt lessons to meet the needs of all learners, providing opportunities for support, challenge and creativity. Where appropriate, learning is linked to wider curriculum themes so that computing enhances pupils’ understanding across subjects.
