Staple Hill School Kitchen
Hot school dinners are cooked on the school premises. All KS1 children are entitled to a free hot school dinner. KS2 children will continue to be charged for their meals.
If your child has special dietary needs, then please let the school know in writing, or if your child prefers vegetarian there is always an option on the menu. Water is provided by the kitchen for those children having hot school meals.
Dinners cost £2.60 per day, £13.00 per week and can be purchased on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Our school takes credit and debit card payments online. All payments are to be made on the ARBOR App. You can pay online using a debit or credit card, so no more cheques, cash going missing or forms getting lost! Payments can be made online whenever and wherever you like, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – all you need is access to ARBOR.
Packed Lunches
Facilities are provided for those children who wish to have a packed lunch. This should be brought in a suitable container, clearly labelled with the child’s name and class name. If a child forgets or loses their packed lunch, a hot lunch will be provided and the relevant amount charged to the parents.
Provisos for packed lunch:
As a “healthy school” we encourage all of our children to eat balanced meals at all times of the day, therefore we encourage lunchboxes which include plenty of fruit or vegetables.
Drinks must be brought in as part of the packed lunch. They must:-
- Not be in glass containers or be cans of fizzy drink.
- The carton or flask must be contained within the sandwich box.
The container should have a strong top to prevent leakage but the child should be able to open it themselves.

We provide free fruit daily to the Infant and Reception children as part of the national government scheme. Toast is available for Junior children at morning break time time (Booked and paid for, termly in advance through ARBOR) at the cost of 10p. Junior children, who do not want to have toast, may bring a piece of fruit or healthy snack to school for their mid-morning break.
Provision of free school milk to children in this authority stops at the age of five.
However, the school belongs to a scheme which allows you to purchase milk for your child from a local dairy at an extremely reasonable cost for children over five. Details of this scheme are available from the school office or can be obtained by phoning School Milk Services on 01934 510950.
For those children who do not have milk, water is always available. We have water fountains inside and outside the building. In the Infants, beakers are provided in the classes for the children to have a drink of water if they wish. In the Juniors the children can refill their water bottles during the day at appropriate times.
FREE SCHOOL MEALS – HOW TO APPLY
Parents and carers can now apply for free school meals online via the Citizen Portal, using the link below. Your eligibility will be checked online, and the portal will let you know whether your child is eligible for free school meals. If your child is eligible you will receive a confirmation message, and the school will be notified directly. If you are not eligible you will be presented with a message stating this.
Please note, if you have already completed a primary or secondary school place application via the portal, you do not need to re register when applying for free school meals. Please use the login details that you have already set up.
